pokémon

I have loved pokémon for a long time. Like a lot of ppl lol

For me it started when I was in... 4th grade? Maybe 3rd. I remember which house I lived in at the time because it was my neighbor, Amanda, who introduced me and my sister to her copy of (I think) Ruby- or perhaps Emerald? I dunno but it was definitely gen 3. I had heard of pokémon of course. She graciously let me fiddle around with her game. When it was announced that gen 4 would be released for Christmas 2007, I KNEW I needed it. And I got my first copy of Diamond, which I still have. The rest is kind of history. Gen 4 is my favorite, largely based on it being my first game. Sinnoh will always be special to me. I don't think I can give an unbiased review of it.

Here is a quick snapshot of my opinions + fav starter:

  • gen 1: classic. Never played all the way through. Have fixed a copy of yellow but had to return it to its owner. Bulbababy.
  • gen 2: awesome. played soulsilver when it came out, possibly the best mainline game if you're objective about it. 2 regions in one, man. Cyndaquil.
  • gen 3: TRUMPETS!!! WATER!!! I'm really fond of this one but always get fucking stuck at or just after the damn mossdeep gym. ONE OF THESE DAYS. favorite to nuzlocke. Torchic and Mudkip tied.
  • gen 4: hehehe my favorite. this is weird but I just love the sound design, including the cries of pokémon. Piplup.
  • gen 5: not my favorite. I think I resent it for being different from Sinnoh. never finished. still enjoyable and I miss certain things about it. uhh I chose Snivy originally I guess but Oshawott is good
  • gen 6: this was a good time for me but the story was... meh. Introduced pumpkaboo so big plus there. Fennekin.
  • gen 7: did NOT like sun and moon much. the linearity, the story didn't capture me at all. I like Alolan variations, I think they're interesting. Rowlett.
  • gen 8: Enjoyed. not too deep. the wild areas and raids are fun still. Sobble is just a wet little guy, so sad. I like the spy angle of the final form too
  • gen 9: like it more than the average pokémon fan I think. Feels refreshing. I haven't finished it but I've been playing a lot of BDSP. Hard to choose between sprigatito and fuecoco.
